Experiences from Advanced Periodic course

Students on our Advanced Periodic course a couple of weeks ago went and did a periodic inspection on a one-bedroomed rental flat in the local area.  Although small, this installation yielded an impressive number of non-compliances including:-
* Class 1 light fitting in bathroom - not earthed
* Bathroom extractor fan - no means of isolation
* Insulation resistance on lighting circuit less than 1Mohm
* Live voltages within property when property isolated at main switch
* Washing machine and fridge - no means of accessible isolation
* Smoke detectors fed from another source of supply
* Electric shower pump fed from lights with no means of isolation.

The students were surprised that such a small, relatively modern flat could have so many regulation violations.  We look forward to presenting the periodic certificate to the client!

Accommodation

We're currently in discussion with several local hotels to obtain the best rates for our students.  So far we have negotiated deals with The Rose and Crown in Tring and The Holiday Inn, Aston Clinton Road, Aylesbury.
We're going to have a look round The Holiday Inn on Friday so we can report back on its facilities, but we're told it has a swimming pool, gym and widescreen TV in the bar.  Other hotels we plan to contact in the near future are The Pendley Manor Hotel and Premier Inn, so please watch our accommodation page for future deals.
